Why is my application taking longer than usual?

If your application is taking a long time to process with IRCC, then it could be a non-routine or complex application.

Here are some reasons why your visitor, work or study permit is taking a long time to process:

  • They are verifying your information and documents.

  • They need additional documents from you, such as child custody information.

  • You sent them unclear copies of your documents.

  • You have a medical condition for which you may need more tests or consultations.

  • You lived in Canada before as a permanent resident.

  • There’s a criminal, security or other admissibility issue.

  • They need to consult with other offices in Canada or abroad.
